When Ben reads an old newspaper on microfilm in the library, the headline reads “Local Drunk Victims”
Synopsis
An author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot to find inspiration for his next book, only to find that the townspeople are being attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again. It wants to get away from the sexier, more romanticized undead that have infested pop culture for most of the past quarter-century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries.

Well, it was a disappointment
Having read the novel several times and having seen the 1979 TV series several times over the years, I was really looking forward to it. I realize it’s asking a lot to squeeze a book into a two-hour movie, a lot of story and character background had to be sacrificed. All of our main characters are there, some visibly altered to suit 21st century standards, but not well fleshed out.
Like not at all
Many liberties are taken with the story as well, some apparently for no apparent reason. I think if you’ve never read the book you wouldn’t know what you’re missing. But the scariest thing about this movie is simple: if you’re even a little bit of a fan of horror movies, It’s Not Scary.
