Synopsis
A grief therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives — including his own. The cast of ‘Shrinking’ shares the best moments that defined their characters in Season 1 and reveals who has the best Harrison Ford impersonation.
Ultimately, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him to take the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he was going to audition people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been brought on, sparking interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was nevertheless thrilled. I’ve watched the first two episodes and found them compelling.
I also respect how it’s presented – he’s not doing something that other therapists are expected to do, and that’s pretty clear
Part of that is because I felt there was something real based on a therapist who needs therapy and wants to break through to his patients to unexpectedly overcome his own issues. He hasn’t gotten into the silly situations that other shows like Loot have, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching.
The show isn’t for everyone
That being said, I appreciate the depth of the characters that aren’t caricatures; they’re people I want to get to know.
