The plot follows Elphaba, the would-be Wicked Witch of the West, and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The second of a two-part adaptation of the Broadway musical. Wicked was first announced to be split into two films in 2022 in April, with composer Stephen Schwartz explaining, “The truth is, we’ve been trying to do this for a while now. In one film, we had to cut or leave out elements that we wanted to include that we thought fans of the show and the story would appreciate.” He added, “Defying gravity was a very difficult thing for us to overcome; without a break. That song was written specifically to bring the curtain down, and any scene that followed without a break felt very anticlimactic.
